Dear members,

Macro gallery on devianArt is in peril. Our current macro GM is considering closing macro gallery and diverting our works all over other categories. Her reasons, in our opinion, aren't valid at all.

Among other things, Tina has stated the following:

"Let's be honest, there isn't much you can take a macro shot of that's "original". The water drops have become a Chinese water torture"
This kind of attitude is not very enthusiastic, that is self-evident.

"Over time, the quality of macro photos within the gallery have been declining."
We disagree with this, we believe that quality of macro photographs has been increasing over time and Macro gallery is comparable if not exceeding in quality other galleries/

I rarely feature Macro DDs anymore simply because barely anything rocks my chair anymore
This unfortunately also suggests a worrying lack of enthusiasm in the current MAcro GM. As much as we love her, we feel that with this attitude, she may not be able to best represent macro art in the community.

This option would result in 'Macro' being removed, as a gallery and everyone would submit photography based on the 'subject'

This option seems to be the best in my opinion since many macro photographers already choose a subject based gallery rather than a technique-based gallery."

Any Macro gallery moderator who thinks the best way forward is to close Macro gallery, is obviously not acceptable.
There are galleries for portraits and landscapes and still life and photomanipulations, full of miscats and beginners works, but they are here to stay. To have our beloved Macro gallery singled out and put in danger of closure because, apparently, it "isn't good enough", is not acceptable.

We consider the possibility of closure of Macro gallery discriminatory. Macro gallery has and still does house some of the most inspiring art on this site, it's been here since the very beginning, it is a standard category on all photo websites and there is no valid reason to destroy it, other than apparent lack of enthusiasm in its current management.

She asked for our opinions about it, so let's all tell them to leave our Macro gallery alone!

So far, our suggestions (not demands, mere suggestions) have been:

1. For Tina to step down and for another, more enthusiastic GM to be appointed

2. For dA to appoint more volunteers in all galleries, to help deal with miscategorisations. We believe that if for a year or so, volunteers diligently move artworks posted into wrong galleries, it will result in better education and more accurate category posting throughout the site.

Please feel free to voice your honest opinions on the topic, even if you disagree with us, and give any suggestions you might have. It is of paramount importance that the good representation of artists contributes to this extremely important discussion.
